Top 10 Reasons Why to Study in South Australia

When I think of studying abroad in Australia, the city of Adelaide seems much underrated. But after thinking about it a bit more, I've come up with 10 reasons why you should study in Adelaide. The capital city of South Australia has many great qualities that every student should know about! Here are my top 10 reasons to study in South Australia!

 

1. Great for students who want to save money!

 

One of the great things about studying in Adelaide is how affordable it is. I found that my budget was able to stretch a bit more than usual when living and studying here in Australia. This was due in part because of the lower daily costs such as food and entertainment, but also because of the value of the Australian dollar. When students come here to study, they can take advantage of this and really save some serious cash!

 

2. Amazing weather all year round

 

The weather in Adelaide is what makes it one of my favorite places to live. Unlike most other parts in Australia, where the weather changes drastically depending on what time of year it is, Adelaide's weather is constant throughout the entire year. This means you'll never have to worry about getting caught in a downpour or some winter snow while living here --unless, of course, you want to!

 

3. Great for students who are looking for jobs after their studies are done

 

Adelaide is an amazing place for students who want to stay and look for a job after they finish their studies. A lot of students come here to study English and then end up staying and looking for work. Not only is this because of the low cost of living, but Adelaide also has many job opportunities. Some students find work with international companies such as Boeing or Dell, while others find work through their university. Either way, Adelaide has plenty of work to offer students who are looking!

 

4. Incredible nightlife

 

There is always something going on in Adelaide at night! Whether you're looking for a club, pub, or lounge, there is no shortage of things to do after dark. There are events happening here almost every day of the week, so it's never hard to find some way to spend your nights. During my time here in Adelaide I've even found that most events are free or very cheap! There is no better value than getting a night out for free.

 

5. Amazing beaches nearby

 

When studying abroad, who doesn't want to spend an afternoon soaking up some rays at the beach? Luckily, Adelaide is only a two-hour drive down south to Glenelg Beach - one of the most popular beaches in all of Australia. Not only are there many other great beaches to check out throughout South Australia, but because Adelaide is so close to the ocean it's always nice weather here!

 

6. Great public transport

 

Most students who study abroad in Australia love to travel and see all the sights within their host country. With Adelaide being so small, it's extremely easy to get around on buses or trains. This makes visiting other parts of South Australia very easy! It is even possible to travel between some parts of Adelaide by bicycle paths.

 

7. Amazing international student population

 

Adelaide's large and diverse international student population has given it a very multicultural vibe; there are great opportunities to make friends from all over the world! As I've said before, Adelaide is a great place for students who want to find work at home after they finish their studies as well as those who want to travel and explore the world.

Adelaide's size, weather, and location make it a very comfortable city -- especially if you're new to living in Australia! Many students who come here can't help but fall in love with this city. It's quite different than other parts of Australia, but it's still a beautiful place to live. There are always new things to explore - whether that be nearby towns or restaurants in the city itself. Many students, myself included, end up spending more time living here than they do studying!

 

9. Affordable lifestyle

 

Although Adelaide has expensive rent prices compared to other parts of Australia, there are still plenty of ways to save money. Many people aren't aware that there are actually great deals to be had on food and entertainment here! This means it's possible to go out for drinks one night, see a show the next day, and eat out another night without spending too much at all. I've spent as little as $8 USD for a nice dinner with drinks for two- which is very affordable in Australia!

 

10. Globally Ranked Universities

 

Adelaide is full of some of the best universities in all of Australia! Adelaide University, Flinders University, and the University of South Australia are some popular choices. There are many others with great programs as well! The low cost of living in addition to the fantastic job market for students will make studying in Adelaide a unique and rewarding experience.
